A day near the runway

Yesterday I was at Changi Boardwalk Park in the afternoon with NK. It was very hot as usual. There, I managed to capture the landing and taking off of planes as the Changi International Airport is just nearby. Later in the evening at around 7pm, I was at Changi Beach again which is rather nearby to where I went earlier in the day. But the second time round, I was with my relatives having picnic. So I took the advantage to shoot airplanes which was flying above us preparing for landing.

Focal Length 300mm Aperture F5.6 Shutter Speed 1/1250s ISO 100

Focal Length 155mm Aperture F5.6 Shutter Speed 1/1250s ISO 100
These 2 pictures were taken at about 1430 hours yesterday.

Focal Length 230mm Aperture F5 Shutter Speed 1/400s ISO 200
Took this on 11th March at 7pm.

Focal Length 55mm Aperture F5.6 Shutter Speed 1/125s ISO 100

Focal Length 55mm Aperture F5.6 Shutter Speed 1/125s ISO 100

Focal Length 30mm Aperture F4 Shutter Speed 8s ISO 400
Took these 3 pics last evening. The last picture is a light trail from the moving plane.

>> this is lovely...
>> I have always been fascinated by planes...
>> I think I should try this one of these days...

Thanks for deleting my comment from your fp too huh.. I mean if you can't take constructive criticism, I wonder how you would react if one day your clients say the same thing as what I did.. Nice things are good to hear and show but the not so nice words are actually meant to be something that you can look into and improve on. I'm no pro in photography but I strongly feel that I have the basics.. Sun 25-Mar-2007 08:14

my jaw dropped when i read you could get a shutter speed of 1/1250 at ISO 100! must have been a very bright day.
if i were to take pictures in heathrow airport - what more of the planes, I probably would get arrested (seriously) - i've been warned several times before not to take pictures of my brother leaving for malaysia from heathrow. they don't allow even holiday pictures!

as for the answer to your question, i took that picture at 18mm using the kit lens - as far as that lens would allow. I've been meeting up with arep many times and i have tried his sigma 10-20mm and I tell you that's the next lens i'm going for - it's excellent.

Hey HR, thanks for the constructive comment yah. Really need comments like dat so i can slowly improve my photographic ability. Btw juz one question, wen do we usually need to desaturate our photos? Bcoz sometimes i dunno if to leave the photo as it is or to make it b&w. Thank you in advance. Sun 25-Mar-2007 14:43

HR, i forgot to add that there will be full-moon after the next 6-7 days corresponding to the half month of the lunar calendar i.e 14-15 Rabiulawal, 1-2 April. Happy moon-sighting! Mon 26-Mar-2007 15:31

Wah! Excited nampak. My shutter speed was 1/125 sec. Aperture F/3.5. Btw this shot was hand-held but if i'm not wrong it's better to use a tripod. I also used spot-metering. I suggest its best for you to trial and error yah. All the best and get ready to hear the werewolves howl. Mon 26-Mar-2007 16:21
