People's antics

Here's some candid shots on people and their antics. All the people in the photos are my friends. Actually I've longed to get shots of babies.. But I don't know where to find one. I had enough of kids. I wanna capture babies as I've never done so. Nevertheless, here's some of my snaps..

The Eye

This is my buddy's eye.. I think she has got a real beautiful hazel eye.. I instantly knew her eye would make a good subject so I took out my mascara and glittering eye shadow to enhance her eye. But what's more interesting is that you can see the reflection of the sky in her eye. The sky that day was amazingly gorgeous.

Photo essay

Today is my photography module. The theme for today is 'Urban Landscape'. Me and my 4 other team mates were geared up with our camera kit and headed to Woodlands Checkpoint, simply not to enter Malaysia but to snap pictures of landmarks surrounding the area. But it's a pity there ain't many cool stuffs we could capture. So we merely go round the area looking for interesting to shoot. Joslyn and I managed to get some great shots of the new and old Woodlands Checkpoint from a distance. We even managed to get some skyscrappers of JB using zoom lens and by going up to the 25th floor of the tallest building in Woodlands. I think today I've not captured too many shots due to time constraint as by 2 plus, we have to present our photos. Here are some interesting shots that I managed to come up with.

I couldn't decide between the coloured and the achromatic one. It came suddenly and started being friendly with me and my mates. This is actually a pic of a cute stray cat leaning on my leg and eventually it settle down and sat right where it was in the picture.

This was shot using the 100-300mm zoom lens. I think the portrait of P.Ramlee and folks is very eye catching. It was taken outside the barber. Didn't wanna go in to seek attention so capturing the subject from outside's a better idea. This barber shop is rather old school too. Like those of the 70s era. Very nostalgic.

For this, I think it is my best shot for today. I like the fact that the old checkpoint overlooks the new one. It's like a contrast between modernisation and the past creation. It was edited the way I did in my previous entry.

I don't like this picture. It's because I find it kinda messy and there's no focus in it. But I post this up to show the view of JB from Singapore's high rise apartment. I think it looks better off camera. Used the zoom lens for this too at 145mm focal length.

Lastly, this wasn't edited at all. These are my team members.. (from front to back) Izyan, Joslyn, Sabby and Adila. We call ourselves the 'Mak Cik Team' (I didn't really like the name anyway ) I think it was a fun outing even though I was whining about the weather at times.

hey there.you got talent.gud effort by the way, to bring up the subject.Try to focus on your subject.ur pictures are not very strong in terms of the focus of the subject that ur trying to bring, to me.try to eliminate unwanted things in the frame.compose them..dan..emm..avoid highlights, coz nanti kacau tumpuan terhadap the main subject..that's my honest opinion hanis keep up the great effort! This particular photo here is a combination on two pictures. I wasn't feeling too well today and I was so dead bored. So I looked through my collections of pictures in my hard disk and did some experiments. I do have new pictures, as new as yesterday. But someone told me that my photo collections seems rather boring lately. Probably because I am so into portraits and people lately as my photography lessons these past weeks was very much on people-related. But anyway, these photos below were taken in Tioman Island. I edited them in everyone's(if not majority) trusty software, Photoshop CS 2. Did some layer masking on the sky and added some cloning around it. Did a massive amount of editings and here is the outcome.

The Originals

Quote:
'The painter constructs, the photographer discloses.' - Susan Sontag

The cloud.. smaller clouds would make it more dramatic i guess.. like the original picture. Then again, you probably have problem cropping the clouds to minus out the trees huh. Let that be, make a few area darker would also add dramatic impact i guess.. read a mag last nite on how a guy turn a seaside capture into a dramatic black n white image. Soooo many steps. But still.. the editing resulted to a much better picture compact to the original shot. Bravo.. Wed 22-Nov-2006 07:55

These shots were taken 2 weeks ago during my photography lesson. The theme for that day was 'Retro' so me and my mates were kinda geared up for the photoshoot. It's one of my best photography days among the past weeks. I do have had tremendous fun. Many thanks to my 2 models Andrea and Adila..

First and foremost, I wanna wish Selamat Hari Raya Maaf Zahir Batin to everyone out there. It's 1st Syawal today and I had loads of fun with my relatives. I think I gained weight due to the food I consumed in each and every houses I went to. Anyway here are some pictures I took of my relatives. Sad thing, I didn't capture anything at my paternal grandma's place because I left the camera at home.

To those who know me in person or through FP, I just wanna say sorry for;
- My laser sharp tongue
- The promises I've broken
- The feelings I've hurt
- And all my craps and pranks I've played on you people and my other sins...
Once again, Maaf Zahir dan Batin.

Selamat Hari Raya..
Sincerely Hanis

Close-up

A self-portrait using lighted candle as lighting.. Doesn't really work out the way I wanted it though.

Quote:
'A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know.' - Diane Arbus

ps: To add on, this was taken with the help of a tripod.

Gothic..? Not sure what that is.. but love works under that theme. Been looking for someone to pose for me. U only have the close up..? If you had plenty of time.. pretty sure you have the full body shot.. normally gothics should at least have down to shoulder shots.. complemented with some kind of background. How about sharing that..? Sat 28-Oct-2006 13:24
Posted by:Budin
Budin - I didn't have the intention to make it look gothic. This is just an experiment using flames as my lighting source. And no I do not have the full body shot. Plus, I am not good at posing unless I have to.. Sat 28-Oct-2006 14:01

Owh.. if you have next time.. 5-10 candles lighting different part of the body and full body shot (even better with floor reflection) would be a favour for me.. he heh. Potraiting own self is a difficult task. Tried that myself several times and keep non of the shots. Just can't set the mood when busy with the setting. Mon 30-Oct-2006 08:05

This place in this picture doesn't look empty to you but it really was unusually empty that day..

Good editing and composition (.. the lamp.. yes it should be there). The color is just right. The title is not really suitable (to me) though. It'll be good if all three tables are empty, but groups of peoples are busy outside the hall. I'll take this as.. 1/3 full.. or anything with better sound but same meaning. But hey.. it's just me.. komplen pandai.. buat sendiri tak jadi. Mon 30-Oct-2006 08:16
