Insects

I went to the Botanical Gardens today not to capture flowers but to capture insects instead. It was a scorching hot day today!! Stayed there for about 2 hours with my 2 buddies before setting off. Tired! Here's the outcome. I'm not too satisfied with it but I tried! Thanks to the 28-135mm lens.

scorching hot, eh? well, i did read somewhere about early morning being the best time to get good insect shots. or was that for another type of photography? either way, i think you'd benefit from the cooler air hehe. the spider shot is probably the best of the lot, because it captures the most detail. seems like the focus is slightly off to me, but that may have been more of a problem with using a wide aperture. try stopping down a bit, to include just a bit more of detail in focus. nonetheless, this is a very commendable effort! oh, and try to get closer too! Macro Photography

Got these pics from City Hall. I suck at my macros.. Just trying my luck here. It's a little unlike me to capture flowers but I was rather on for it today.

dear, you are very faithful indeed. the pictures would be much awesome if you crop so that the macro subjects stand out. other than that, good effort. Thu 15-Feb-2007 09:56

Today is the last day of my photography module. So sad! But well, the topic for today is 'Fashion'. I enjoyed the outdoor photoshoot even though it was a hot day today!

i think the lighting's quite good, in that it gives a bit of mystery to the subject. but i think for this kind of shoot, perhaps sharpening and contrast would need to be increased to give it a more stylized appearance. nonetheless, the composition's effective. Wed 7-Feb-2007 14:40

Studio Photography - Portraits

I just realised I've gone away for a month from posting my pictures here. Been really busy and haven't had a bit of time to capture great pics. But nevertheless, here are some pictures of me and my team on our photography lesson yesterday. The topic was on 'Studio People' and we decided to come out with the theme 'Emotions'. We set up our own lighting and we became each other's model. Below are our best shots.

hope it's not too late.....happy new year....and many more great photos Wed 31-Jan-2007 05:17

Love the Joslyn shot. Seems like u only manipulate a single light source. I guess expressing emotions will need more than that.. or at least good manipulation of bounced light. I can't do that myself.. just comparing with what i've seen elsewhere. Nevertheless.. good models. U and Izyan have good face for the theme (more edgy and "kontur"). Got more of u two..? Very close shots maybe..? Fri 2-Feb-2007 02:44

2 Years

View all 5 photos...
Today marks the 2nd year since the devastating Tsunami hit regions in Asia! Quarter of million have cherished. Hundreds of thousand left homeless and lost their loved ones. Well, one such country that was badly hit by the Tsunami is Sri Lanka. Last year, I was given an opportunity of a lifetime to go on a trip to the southern coast of the beautiful Island of Pearl which was destroyed by the natural disaster. It was an eye opening trip. I stayed there for 2 weeks in September 2005. Here are some photos from my trip to Sri Lanka which I would like to share.

This is the hotel which was the worst-hit in Sri Lanka. 9 months later after reconstruction, it looked so tip top! 5 star hotel, what more do you expect.. Anyway, I didn't reside here. I was there to do some charity work.

That was my team(Republicanoz) and the Chief Village's family. It was our second last day there and the village chief invited us over to his house(which was not badly destroyed by the Tsunami) for lunch. We had Sri Lankan delicacies.

This is the temporary housing for the Tsunami victims.

These kids are made homeless as their houses were destroyed by the waves. They're living in hostels with their 'new' family. They were amazing! I looked forward to see them each day while I was there.

This is where I reside. My team rented a house in this neighbourhood and it's where we spend our time for two whole enchanting weeks.

Insects

This is an area where I really suck at - Insects! They're simply too fast and I always had difficulties trying to get a good shot of them. These pictures below are some lucky shots of an unknown insect and a dragonfly. I found the unknown fly landing on a car so I quickly snap it from a distance before it flies away. I used a 28-135mm lens for that. As for the dragonfly, I found it on the wall outside my house. I think it's a cool looking dragonfly so I quickly went into the house and grab my camera. I'm afraid I might scare it away so I was really far from the insect. I was quite in a daze when I capture it as the sun is still rising while I capture that.

This is my elder sister Farah. Love you heaps sis..

Network Security Investigation

On Monday and Tuesday, my school conducted this NSI event for secondary school students. I have no idea what they the participants were supposed to do there but my job is to snap them in action. It was a seriously boring event for me because the responses from the participating schools ain't that overwhelming. Doesn't even look like a big event though. My mates and I were slacking half the time when we're there whereas we actually have to go round taking pictures of the event. But nevertheless, the second day of the event was more fruitful compared to the first day.
